Tifie Children:Tifie Humanitarian immediately saw a need to provide a future for these children. Tifie's vision is one of creating long term change and stability by engaging the employees of Tifie enterprises and local citizens by teaching them to be agents of change. In early 2008 Tifie purchased property with a suitable house and renovated it to provide living accommodations for up to 20 displaced children and then donated it to a youth development center created by Tifie Humanitarian employees. Tifie employees also elected a board of directors from the community and the Tifie Enterprises to oversee the education, health, and social skills development of the children in the center. These children now have a safe living environment, 24/7 supervision, education, in-house tutors, three meals a day, and most importantly a group of people that loves and cares for them.
It wasn’t enough for Tifie Humanitarian to just start a youth center but to also ensure its long term sustainability. Tifie’s founder and chairman, Robert Workman, has taught his organization that if we begin an activity we owe it to the beneficiaries to make sure it will be sustained long term. In order to achieve this goal Tifie Humanitarian assigned its DRC transportation enterprise to fund the youth center and it now provides for the center's financial needs. Tifie Humanitarian has seen the youth center as one of its greatest successes because it is run, operated, and funded by Congolese. It is not just Americans helping Congolese but Congolese helping Congolese who are making a sustainable impact on the lives of these children and in the society they live within. |
